How Times Are Calculated
Hvsna computes prayer times on your device from:
- Your location (latitude and longitude)
- The calculation method and madhab in Settings
Times are never fetched from a server, so they work offline.
The Five Daily Prayers
| Prayer | Time |
|---|---|
| Fajr | Dawn — ends at sunrise |
| Dhuhr | Just after the sun passes its zenith |
| Asr | Afternoon — depends on your madhab |
| Maghrib | Sunset |
| Isha | Nightfall |
Sunrise is also shown, as a marker between Fajr and Dhuhr.
Calculation Method
The method sets the sun-below-horizon angles used for Fajr and Isha. Different regions and organizations use different conventions, which is the main reason two apps can disagree by a few minutes. Pick the one your local authority uses.
KEMENAG is the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs method. Hvsna builds it from 20° / 18° angles plus the Kemenag ihtiyati safety margin (+2 minutes on each prayer, −2 minutes on sunrise) so it matches the printed Bimas Islam schedules.
Madhab
The madhab (Shafi or Hanafi) only affects Asr: Hanafi begins Asr later, when an object's shadow is twice its length plus the noon shadow.
Why Don't These Match My Masjid Exactly?
Small differences (1–5 minutes) are normal — different calculation methods, slightly different coordinates, or a masjid that goes by local sighting rather than calculation. If times are wildly off, check your location and your device timezone.
